Khan vs Vargas 8th September 2018 fight review.
Former light welterweight champion Amir Khan kept his career alive by defeating Samuel Vargas. This happened after an unremarkable 12 round solid decision on Saturday night at the Arena Birmingham, England. The judges scored the fight 119-108, 119-109 and 118-110.
Amir defiantly won but looked horrific in terms of his stamina. He was ready to be knocked out in the 10th round. Boxing news 24 states that he won nine rounds to three. Vargas shockingly dropped him in the 2nd round and had him out on his feet in the 10th round. He was fortunate to be saved by the bell. Had there been more time in the round, Vargas looked certain to stop the fight.
Amir was given credit for a rabbit punch knockdown in round 3. In round five he was the busiest fighter in the ring, landing more shots than Vargas. He manages to catch Vargas with a punch that caused a serious injury to his nose. Khan who was already worn out by the effort he put in the previous rounds suffered a setback in the 7th round. This gave Vargas an advantage as he frequently started landing deadly body shots.
Who will Khan call Out?
Following the win, Amir called out the World Boxing Association welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. In hopes that Pacquiao will take the second comeback fight. This callout generated a massive disappointment to Matchroom Boxing USA, as Khan was presumed to call out Kell Brook.
Brook is due to box again on Sept. 22 in another warm-up fight. However, Pacquiao is perhaps the more realistic opponent for Khan to aim for. Khan and Pacquiao have been linked together before, in 2015 and last year. The Filipino holds a world title of sorts.
Amir is not afraid of facing the best. He proved this by stepping up two weight divisions to face Mexican Canelo Alvarez in May 2016. Unfortunately, he got emphatically knocked out after an impressive start.
