#History of Sport

The history of sport started about 3000 years ago. They were training for war and hunting. There were sport games that involved rock throwing, spears and a lot of fighting games.

 

Baseball

Alexander Cartwright of New York invented the modern baseball field in the year 1845.

Basketball

The players dribble a soccer ball up and down a court. You have to throw the soccer ball into a iron hoop.

Cricket

The history about a cricket bat was invented in 1853, the blade was made of willow with a cane handle. The bat was tied with twine and covered with rubber.

Football

This sport started in the year 1879 with rules by Walter Camp.

Golf

Golf started from a game played at the coast during the 15th century. The player would hit a peddle instead of a ball on sand by using a stick.

Hockey

Ice hockey is played by two teams, if the team has a penalty there is only six players on a team on the ice rink. You have to knock a puck into the opposite teams net.

Ice-Skating

The Dutch people started using wooden platform skates with flat iron bottom runners at the bottom of the skates.

Skiing

The Norwegian island of Rodoy is over 4,000 years old. The skiing was introduced by gold miners.

Swimming

Swimming pools become popular in the middle of the 19th century. There were six indoor pools built in London.

Tennis

Tennis is from the 12th century in French they call it paume.

Volleyball

William Morgan was the man who invented volleyball in 1985. Morgan called his new game of Volleyball, Mintonette.
