A team game played with an oval ball on a field each side has eleven players on the field at any time. The first match of American football was played on 6 November 1869 . American football is the most popular sport in the United States.

The American football evolved from the sports soccer and rugby football. Football is a sport where two teams take control of a ball. In 1875 the game was played under rugby style rules. The legal forward pass was in 1906. A team can only be played with 11 players in a team. Playing with more player on a field can be a penalty.

- Scoring – The team that has scored the most points at the end of the game is the winning team.
- Field and equipment – White marks on the field identify the distance from the end zone.
- Time stoppages – The game is 60 minutes and one half is 30 minutes.
- Advancing the ball and downs – There are two main ways that the offense can advance the ball by running and passing.
